28 oz can diced tomatoes with juice(I use Delmonte)
6 oz tomato paste
4 cups low sodium chicken broth
3 cups chopped peppers- I use bell cheaper
2/3 cup uncooked brown or white rice
2 Tbsp packed brown sugar
1 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
In a large skillet cook turkey with onion and add garlic over medium heat until browned. Drain juices and transfer to a slow cooker. Add remaining ingredients and stir to mix gently. Cook on low for 8-9 hours. Add water to thin if necessary or to stretch recipe. Makes 6 2 cup servings. 300 calories/15g sugar/21g protein. Great cons weather or game day food. A slice of bread and a beverage completes your he meal.
